A Satisfied Client's Experience with Farmer's Fridge
The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is the flagship academic medical center for the University of Maryland Medical System. It includes two campuses with nearly 1,000 total beds supported by more than 10,000 team members and 2,000 medical staff members. UMMC was in search of a food offering that could serve their staff and patients around the clock, particularly for staff during overnight hours.
Sean Ambrose, Vendor Contract Manager at UMMC, provided insights into the opportunities in the food service operations at both campuses. The Midtown Campus posed a unique challenge as its cafeteria closed at 7 pm and reopened at 8 am, resulting in a lack of in-house meal options for staff. As residents are required to be on-site as part of the MD residency program, Sean began exploring additional food service program options to meet their needs.
Meanwhile, the Downtown Campus was also searching for additional overnight food options, with requests from staff for a nutritious, low-maintenance, 24/7 meal solution.
Rising to the Occasion
In search of a solution, Sean, the Vendor Contract Manager, was introduced to Farmer's Fridge by our partners at Canteen.
Upon learning about Farmer's Fridge, Sean found that it met all of UMMC’s food service needs, including around-the-clock availability, full meal offerings, and a variety of nutritious options. Sean conducted thorough research and met with our team to fully understand what Farmer's Fridge had to offer. As other potential options would have had additional budget impact, Farmer's Fridge emerged as the best option to fuel staff and visitors around the clock, ultimately leading to their decision to move forward with our solution.

In June of 2022, Farmer's Fridge installed two Smart Fridges at the University of Maryland Medical Center ‒ one at their Downtown location and another at Midtown.
The feedback has been so positive from the Downtown location that we have since brought in a second fridge.

Thanks to our plug-and-play solution which requires only 14 sq./ft. of space, a standard duplex outlet, and a 5G wireless connection, we were able to install three fridges across both campuses.
